Giving Back To The Community

Our next PDU night is Oct. 20th, from 6-9 pm, upstairs at Pauper’s Pub on Bloor St., Toronto. The theme of the evening will be “Giving Back To The Community”

Providing volunteer, project management related work to community and charitable groups is one way of earning PDU’s. It is also an important component of PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.

Speakers: For this evening, PMP’s are invited to speak about current work they are doing in the community and/or ways in which other PMP’s can assist in the community. Each speaker will be eligible for extra PDU’s depending on the time they have spent in preparing the presentation. If you are interested, contact me directly to discuss how this might work.

Cost? $25 at the door. Pre-registration not required.
Charity? Parkdale Community Food Bank , Toronto
PDU’s Available? 3 for attendance, more for presentations.

Project Manager, Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) Implementation

Description

Responsibilities

Prepare statements of work, project plans and project deliverables using our standard methodology Prepare project budgets, monitor and report on overall project status.
Anticipate changes required in project plans and processes; recommend alternative approaches to the project team and manage change requests as required.
Analyze customers’ business requirements and prepare functional requirements document.
Prepare specification documents for development staff to customize solutions for specific needs
Prepare and deliver training and documentation to clients
Depending on qualifications and experience, may be required to configure NAV to meet customer requirements (project managers are expected to be able to implement solution)

Requirements

Experience & Education

4 to 6 years of business/accounting experience
2 to 3 years of ERP implementation experience; NAV or mid-market ERP experience and certifications an asset
B.A. / B.S. in a technical field or business/accounting degree or designation (BBA, MBA, CMA, CGA, CA), or equivalent work experience
PMP designation an asset
Work experience in the non-profit, public sector or educational institution or board an asset, particularly with respect to implementation of financial, HR, donor management and other related systems
Application & Technical Skills:
Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills, including MS Project and Visio
Hands-on NAV or mid-market ERP implementation experience
SQL DB and or MA Access experience an asset
Web design, MS SharePoint, MS Reporting Services, MS PerformancePoint, SSIS experience desirable

Personal Skills

Organized, motivated, proactive
Committed to continuous learning and improvement
Able to give and receive feedback constructively
Actively builds relationships by understanding different perspectives and works toward win-win solutions

Good evening had by all as over 100 PMP’s gathered at Pauper’s Pub to learn more about communicating their skills better. Presentations were given by Tim Rudkins and Max Gorouvein on creating better resumes and communications:

A Sample PM Resume

Over $2,000 was raised for Buwaiswa Orphanage in Uganda, the charity recipient for the evening. The Orphanage currently has over 800 children, most of whom have lost their parents due to AIDS related diseases. In most cases, the children are being raised by their grandparents who use many of the services of the orphanage as well.
